Chris Marker (?)

Well, the person I'm choosing to write is quite a character. The name he use to publish his work is Chris Marker, but his real name is a mistery (there was revealed but it doesn't matter).
Who the hell is Chris Marker?

A cat?
A movie?
A concept?

This particular guy is a french photographer, writer and filmmaker, mainly known by his film-essay work (as André Bazin would say) made from the 40's to 80's and some of the 90's.

He started working with Alain Resnais and, at that time, you can see the poetical language on his films, but the big paradigm in the field of documentary was the big importance of the word with the image, because there was (and it still remains) the conception of how to make documentary and the style of Marker was completely out of standard, especially because the thin line with fiction.
Anyway, the guy worked with others filmmakers like, Agnès Varda, Goddard, Joris Ivens, etc. at 60's with a more compromised films like "Far from Vietnam" (Loan du Vietnam) and "A grin without a cat" (Le Fond de l'air est rouge). But he's mainly known by his only fiction work named "La Jetèe" (who would inspirate the movie "12 Monkeys") and the Documentary "Sunless" (Sans Soleil).

The person itself is not well known, just the movies, and the way he made his movies is the tool of Marker to approach him (even if that's not the intention of the autor. Of course, we don't know that), but also there is another person (the narrator as a concept) not known, and at the same time there isn't anybody. I think that's the thing I like about this character, and his extremely hard-to-see docs, of course.

As I say, his movies talk by his own, so I let you judge by your own with an extract from Sans Soleil.
Enjoy
